San Miguel Eskrima
San Miguel Eskrima is one of the older styles of Eskrima from the Island of Cebu in the central region of the Philippines.
The San Miguel Style was created by Grandmaster Filimon ‘Momoy’ Canete an elder Brother of Grandmaster ‘Cacoy’ Canete.
The San Miguel Style (named after the archangel Saint Michael) is a long to medium range style focusing on the use of the 32 inch rattan stick and a twelve inch dagger (known as Spada Y Daga).
Other weapons are employed within the style such as: Single & Double Stick, Sword, 5 foot staff (known as Ananangkil), Bangkaw (Spear), Kadena (Chain - single & double), throwing daggers and the Bull Whip (known as Latigo). Each weapon is designed to teach a specific quality required in the Mastery of Eskrima.
The San Miguel Style also teaches a wide range of un-armed skills, mostly for defeating an armed opponent.
The centre piece of the San Miguel Style is the San Miguel Form, along sequence of movements which contain the essential footwork and upper body skills of the San Miguel Style.
San Miguel Eskrima is a dynamic and flamboyant style with a comprehensive system of technical progression.
